Simple Woman's Daybook 7/3/2012

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... The bright moon casts it's glow on everything... all is still and peaceful.

I am thinking... that I really should be in bed! (Isn't that always the way.)  I am thinking of friends to pray for, all in different places, and situations.  Definitely feel the meaning of "Rejoicing with those who rejoice, weep with those who mourn."

I am thankful... for God's faithfulness, for how far He has brought me, that "He Who began a good work shall bring it unto completion."

In the kitchen... not too much is happening here with the summer heat, though I do have a feeling I should bake something soon!

I am wearing... Capri shorts, a white shirt, barefoot.

I am creating... plans for dresses; an apron for a soon to be 4 year old; and a few other smaller projects.  My sewing machine has missed me ;)

I am going... to take one little to the Dr for a follow up tomorrow, while I wait and see if another needs a trip too. :/

I am wondering... if my friend's baby has come yet.  She is at our hospital right now... :)

I am reading... Mostly the Bible, and our school work.  We just restarted the Little House Series so the littler ones will get to enjoy it!

I am hoping... our garden will be fruitful.  It has been struggling with an entourage of pests, so it is not quite where it was last year!

I am looking forward to... tomorrow.  The Fourth of July.  I'm hoping that my copy of the Constitution is still intact since Karissa likes to steal books from the shelves... I usually read the Declaration of Independence aloud to the kids as part of our celebration.

I am learning so much in our History lessons! All manner of things we didn't cover in my school years (Prolly ran outta time in the year) and fun connective facts!  I'm sucking them all up! :)  The kids like it too. ;)

Around the house... we have been having quite a few helpers taking on more lately.  I allow them to "earn" something (candy, a toy back from the "take-away box," a movie or other something special) by doing different chores.  They have really liked being able to get something for doing something, so it has helped around the house immensely!

I am pondering... really, my brain is no longer pondering. o.O

A favorite quote for today... "A Mommy's job means getting paid in Hugs and Kisses"

A few plans for the rest of the week: Celebrating the 4th.  Resting? lol We are researching for History to make a skit. :)

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... the early dawn is brightening the sky with rosy pink and orangy-yellow hues; it is still, calm and crisp.  A lovely autumn morning.  (time for tea)

I am thinking... is little Karissa getting sick, teething, or suffering from allergies?  It made for a rough night for us to have her congested and restless no matter the cause, but it would be nice to give her some help.

I am thankful... oh, for so much!  But right at this moment for the sweet sleep my nursling is getting now, and the restful quiet I can enjoy with her.

From the learning rooms... we had soooooo much fun with report giving for our Israel: Moses through Divided Kingdom study. 
Neno (2nd grade) gave a report on the important ancient trade routes, items and transport methods which included a map the others had to recreate. 
Moriah (4th grade) spoke about ancient Phoenicia and some neat facts she found out about them... like farming elephants! 
Ysa (7th grade) studied archaeology and a few excavation sites in Israel and Egypt.  She spoke to the kids about the interesting things she learned and created (with help) her own excavation site that they all got to dig. :)  They had so much fun that they are planning to do it for their new "game."  We took a box, dirt and a few items we didn't mind burying (like some clay  trinkets, coins, some (cardboard) clay tablets with heiroglyphics (sharpie markered on) and a couple of sharpened sticks as spears or arrows.  The kids took turns digging with a couple garden trowels and a small paint brush.  They each found 2 things, then allowed someone else a turn.  :)

In the kitchen... I made stew yesterday.  Well, Ysa and Mo really helped out and did quite a bit of the work I had left.  I was a hot... fairly warm day, but it was still a nice, comforting dinner *and* I don't really have to make dinner tonight. :)

I am wearing... My pjs still :) Some of the only pink I wear as they are comfy and were a gift from a sweet friend.  Also a grey nursing top and cozy knit socks.

I am creating... lots of fun school papers on our paint program.  We have made a few connect the dots (numbers and letters) pictures, and math designs pages.  You can easily make the math pages with a set of problems in your particular level for lower level math.  Just make dots on a page, 2 for each problem that are spaced around the page.  No order is necessary, just put dots around.  Then place a problem (2 + 2) by one dot, pick any other dot on the page and place the answer (4.)  The student then connects the dots from problem to answer with a straight line.  Some times I will have several with the same answer, the effect is cool, but you need fewer dots as they all connect to the same one answer.  Once all the problems are matched, they color their design any way they like. :)

I am going... to be staying home while we figure out if this is allergy or germy congestion going on around here.

I am wondering... if I may be getting it too,  or if I'm just tired this week.

I am reading... Bible, Streams in the Desert, Jo's Boys (read aloud for story-nap) and our school stuff.

I am hoping... to get to have some play-dates soon.

I am looking forward to... visiting a couple dear friends.

I am hearing... Neno and Punkin talking over the Vision Forum Catalog in my bed as they just woke up.

Around the house... it's all upside down!  We were trying the 31 days to clean, but if you haven't organized or cleaned certain places... you'll take more than 31 days!  We are stuck in the kitchen cupboard reorganizing and cleaning!  And really, other things have been more pressing of late.  Today's plan will be to accomplish the dishes and schooling, then try for some extra work in bedroom disaster zones.

I am pondering... if my expectations are too high, or if we really don't work well... or efficiently.

One of my favorite things...  baby snuggles (have I said that several times?)  what about the little curl that is starting to show on the side of Karissa's head? :)

A few plans for the rest of the week:  will be contingent on illnesses... or lack there of.  I hope for church and a play day that has been postponed a few times; and the usuals of life.

FOR TODAY 8/18
Outside my window... Dark and still. Only the stars moving over head and the little critters of night out for a frolic. :) Finishing this in the Hot and Sunny part of the day. It seems still, but maybe that's because it's a breeze, not a gale, out there.

I am thinking... my poor sick baby is concerning me. It's day 3 of a fever with few other symptoms. Time to call the Dr?

I am thankful... things went well for a dear friend yesterday at court. Still a long road, but some of it is past now.
I am also thankful that my littlest sweetheart is nursing again, as with the fever she had refused a couple of meals yesterday.

From the learning rooms... I was discouraged earlier today with what we haven't accomplished in our learning, and in the house for that matter, but we do have another round of mystery illness, and they have had some fun learning experiences this week which will stick better than the text book stuff will anyway! I was encouraged by the blog I shared below in the posts.

In the kitchen... My fry oil has been out far too much lately. >insert guilty smile< and I have some special birthday requests coming up at the beginning of September I am gearing up for. But yesterday's fun was teaching my 9 year old how to make scrambled eggs, and being helped by a soon-to-be-5 and a soon-to-be-3 as we made blueberry scones.

I am wearing... White nursing top, teal pj pants with teddy bear pattern, fuzzy socks (because my feet generate their own cold) Not in PJs anymore ;) More of a workout outfit in black and blue (lol) but it's light and I can clean in it without concerns.

I am creating... we are working on planning out a play called "The Exodus" I may try to record it :)

I am going... to be home bound until kids are better again. Then we have some plans to visit with a few families we don't get to see much. :)

I am wondering... why we have continued the barrage of illnesses this year.

I am reading... Bible... which right now is really interesting to read chronologically as we skip about from Jeremiah to Ezekiel to Kings and Chronicles. School books. Just finished Little Men and looking for our next story book.

I am hoping... to get to some cleaning projects soon, but especially the spot treating carpets before we have my in-love's over.

I am looking forward to... the approaching birthdays and the gifts I am preparing :)
also to having healthy kiddos! and a possible camping trip soon.

I am hearing... Computer humming, the whoosh of the cooler and the rhythm of the fan; the click of the keys beneath my fingers.... and in the daylight... sounds of a toy, children playing and laughing :)

Around the house... I'm stressed about the amount of non-sense on my floor, and the condition of several catch-alls around the house. But my dishes are all cleaned; I found one counter, wiped it; the stove top and oven clean; and have paths. (actually more than just paths in most of the house, only the kids rooms can I describe that poorly) And I have held my poor darling babe as she feels so icky... which to me is the more important thing!

I am pondering... plans and expectations. Are my expectations too high, or my plans too many to fit in their given time? Or am I distracted or lazy since I cannot meet those expectations? Guess this goes back to, What's Important Now; and only working in that area.

One of my favorite things... laughter; the sound, the feel, watching it! :)

A few plans for the rest of the week: I finally got eye appointments for soon-to-be 12 and Hubby (takes me a long time to finally call to make appts!) but I get to sit these out and stay home with babies. I need to get some shopping done, and will be excitedly preparing Birthday cards and gifts for the 2 beginning of September girls.

Outside my window... Darkness, as usual. A little earlier the crescent moon was yellowy and hanging just over the western mountains, it has set by now... so the stars will show better now :)

I am thinking... mostly of plans for tomorrow and the weekend... also of praying through the days of Ramadan.

I am thankful... for the Lord's protection on my little one who had a choking experience day before yesterday, and over my sister's family with the gas leak experience yesterday.

From the learning rooms... finishing up our studies of Ancient Egypt and the Bible :) Compared Passover in Exodus with the Traditional Passover Seder now celebrated and learned some about hieroglyphics. Did an excellent plant/leaf study this week for Science, everyone enjoyed it and had a good time taking part.

In the kitchen... Going to try to make a gluten free Challah bread to take Sunday to our class. Since we have several ripe zucchini I am going to attempt adding it to the mix too :)

I am wearing... pjs :) These very loud and out-of-my character, flannel pj pants that my momma gave me for Christmas, a black nursing top, a dark grey hooded knit sweater. (Honey likes the room temp a little chillier than I do)

I am creating...not much other than food projects, but I just read on Jo's daybook that some consider food a valid form of creativity :)
(and if you see her Chocolate marble cake, you have to agree!)
Oh! I did create some cards for my Momma and my niece for their birthdays Saturday! Fun, but Microsoft can be frustrating!

I am going... shopping tomorrow. I get a little nervous about it after the fainting thing... at least for a few months. Just makes me wonder if it will happen again today? In the store? While driving home? :/

I am wondering... if the season of my life, and the season of one of my friend's life will meet again soon?

I am reading... Bible, school, blogs. :) in that order. ;)

Around the house... I did a good bit of vacuuming today (I also use it to dust) and then used the air compressor to clean the vac :) We have some painting projects and a couple of things to work on in our storage room.

I am pondering... the blog posts from Lynnette @ Dancing Again. Do I have a blog that is worth my time and my reader's? Do I add value or not? Do I continue because I find it cathartic or do I have a message to reach out with?

One of my favorite things... the little mark left on me from a little ear pressed against my skin. **sigh**

A few plans for the rest of the week: shopping, Sunday School, Some projects around the house, a chiropractor appt.
